COURSE CURRICULUM

The program is structured to develop a strong foundation in English studies while allowing students to build advanced research and communication skills over time. In the first year, students are introduced to key areas such as English literature, the history of the English language, and professional writing, alongside developing essential critical thinking skills. This provides a solid base for both analytical and creative work. In the second year, the focus shifts towards independent research and practical experience, with modules such as researching the humanities and investigating the archive, helping students engage more deeply with texts and historical materials. Students also explore language diversity through the study of varieties of English and have the opportunity to undertake a work experience placement, enhancing their employability and real-world understanding. In the final year, students further specialise and demonstrate their knowledge through a dissertation, an extended independent research project on a topic of their choice. Additional modules, such as child language acquisition and a humanities showcase, allow students to explore specific interests and present their work in a professional context. Overall, the course develops strong analytical, research, and communication skills, preparing graduates for a wide range of careers or further academic study.
