COURSE CURRICULUM

The English Literature with Creative Writing BA(Hons) degree provides a structured and immersive pathway for students to develop both their literary knowledge and creative writing skills. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in critical thinking, professional writing, introduction to English literature, and the history of English, developing analytical abilities and a deep understanding of literary traditions. In the second year, the focus shifts to applying these skills creatively, with modules such as Developing Your Craft and Scriptwriting, alongside Researching the Humanities and Investigating the Archive, allowing students to combine practical writing with academic research. A work experience placement offers real-world exposure, helping students understand professional contexts and industry practices. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through major creative projects, including the Creative Writing Project: Going Public, Experimental Writing, and participation in the Humanities Showcase, giving them the opportunity to present their work publicly and engage with audiences. Throughout the degree, students receive guidance from experienced tutors and are encouraged to explore a range of writing forms and literary styles. Graduates leave with a strong portfolio, versatile skills in research, analysis, communication, and creative expression, and are well-prepared for careers in writing, publishing, media, or further academic study.
