COURSE CURRICULUM

The program combines the study of English literature and history, allowing students to develop a broad understanding of how texts and historical contexts influence one another. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules such as introduction to English literature, history of the English language, and professional writing, alongside developing critical thinking skills. They also explore historical topics including medieval and early modern sources and approaches, as well as twentieth century Britain, gaining insight into key periods and methods of historical study. In the second year, the focus shifts towards independent learning and practical experience, with modules such as researching the humanities and investigating the archive, which help students engage more deeply with primary sources and research techniques. A work experience placement further enhances employability by providing real-world experience. In the final year, students undertake a dissertation, allowing them to conduct in-depth research on a topic of their choice that reflects their combined interests. Additional modules such as voices of the Holocaust and the humanities showcase enable students to explore specialised themes and present their work in a professional context. Overall, the course develops strong analytical, research, and communication skills, preparing graduates for diverse careers or further academic study.
