COURSE CURRICULUM

The Childhood, Education and Inclusion BA(Hons) degree is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of child development, learning, and inclusive practice across three years. In the first year, students explore foundational concepts through modules such as theories and strategies for learning, self, society and welfare, contemporary childhoods, and perspectives in learning and development, building a broad understanding of how children grow and learn within social contexts. In the second year, the focus shifts to professional practice and safeguarding, alongside a choice of specialist routes that allow students to tailor their studies. These include philosophical approaches to education, autism and neurodiversity, or working with children and families, enabling students to develop expertise in areas aligned with their interests and career goals. In the final year, students undertake a significant research project, supported by a planning module, allowing them to investigate a topic in depth. They also study modules focused on amplifying the voices of children and young people and further specialise depending on their chosen route, with options including social, emotional and mental health in education, critical approaches to inclusive education, or counselling, coaching, and mentoring. Overall, the course develops critical thinking, practical skills, and professional knowledge, preparing graduates for careers supporting children, young people, and families in a variety of educational and social settings.
