COURSE CURRICULUM

The Social Work program is structured over two years, combining academic study with practical placements to prepare students for professional practice. In the first year, students focus on developing research skills and becoming informed practitioners, learning to apply evidence-based approaches to social work practice through the module “The Research Informed Practitioner.” The second year expands on this foundation with a comprehensive set of compulsory modules designed to develop professional knowledge, practical skills, and ethical understanding. Students study law and policy for practice, human growth and development, ethics, values, and anti-discriminatory practice, and practice contexts, providing a strong theoretical framework to guide decision-making and interventions. Alongside academic learning, students engage in extensive practice learning through two major practice placements, which allow them to apply their knowledge in real-world social work settings, working directly with individuals, families, and communities. Skills for practice modules further develop students’ professional competencies, including communication, assessment, intervention, and advocacy. The dissertation module supports independent research, enabling students to critically explore an area of interest and contribute to evidence-based practice. By integrating theory, research, ethics, and practical experience, the program equips graduates with the knowledge, skills, and professional judgment required to practice effectively as competent, compassionate, and socially responsible social workers.
