COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Paramedic Science (pre-registration) program is structured over two years, combining extensive practical experience with theoretical study to prepare students for professional practice as paramedics. In the first year, students focus on paramedic practice-based learning, gaining hands-on experience in real-world settings to develop clinical skills, decision-making abilities, and confidence in responding to urgent and emergency care situations. Complementing this, modules in clinical skills for urgent and emergency care provide foundational knowledge and practical competencies essential for safe and effective patient management. The second year builds on this foundation with advanced modules covering the breadth of paramedic practice. Students study acute medical presentations, complex care, resuscitation, trauma, and the critically ill patient, as well as urgent care and clinical pharmacology, ensuring they are equipped to manage diverse and high-pressure clinical scenarios. The program also emphasizes research and evidence-based practice, with modules on research methods and a dedicated research project, enabling students to critically evaluate clinical practices and contribute to the development of paramedic science. Through this combination of practical placements, classroom learning, and research, graduates acquire the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care and to register with the Health and Care Professions Council as qualified paramedics.
