COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Digital Comics program is designed to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and practical experience needed to succeed in the evolving digital comics industry. Across the course, students develop their creative abilities through a series of structured modules that build progressively from foundational skills to advanced practice. Practice 1: Developing Skills allows students to establish a strong base in core techniques and approaches, while Digital Media: Sources and Significance encourages critical engagement with the history, theory, and context of digital media, helping students understand the influences shaping contemporary comics. Practice 2: Creative Project Development provides the space and guidance to experiment and refine individual creative projects, promoting technical competence alongside innovation and problem-solving. Exploring Professional Practice focuses on the professional and commercial aspects of the field, preparing students to navigate industry standards, audiences, and workflows. The Major Study: Digital Comics module serves as the culmination of the degree, enabling students to produce a substantial portfolio of work that demonstrates both artistic skill and conceptual depth. Throughout the program, students are encouraged to collaborate with peers across other creative disciplines, including animation, games art, and concept art, fostering interdisciplinary approaches. By the end of the course, graduates possess a professional-standard portfolio, industry awareness, and the creative confidence to pursue careers as digital comics creators or related roles in the wider creative sector.
