COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM in International Human Rights Law provides students with in-depth knowledge and critical understanding of human rights protection at both global and regional levels. The program includes two compulsory modules, International Human Rights Law and International Humanitarian Law, which together establish a strong foundation in human rights and humanitarian principles. The International Human Rights Law module explores the theoretical, philosophical, and practical aspects of human rights, focusing on comparative and cross-cultural perspectives, United Nations mechanisms, and the implementation of civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights. The International Humanitarian Law module examines the legal frameworks governing armed conflicts, including the Geneva Conventions, the protection of civilians, and the regulation of hostilities. It also addresses contemporary issues such as the role of non-state actors, the use of autonomous weapons, and the impact of counterterrorism on humanitarian protections. Alongside these, students may select from a variety of optional modules, including Data Protection Law, Public International Law, and Employment Law, allowing them to tailor their studies to their career interests. Supported by the Research Methods and Skills module and the option to undertake an LLM Dissertation, this program prepares graduates for roles in international organisations, NGOs, legal practice, or academic research.
