COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM in Criminal Justice is designed to develop advanced understanding and analytical skills in the areas of criminal law, criminal justice, and global policing. The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical learning, preparing students for careers in legal practice, law enforcement, or policy-making. Core modules such as Contemporary Issues in Criminal Justice and Criminal Law and Clinical Legal Education and Research provide essential insights into modern legal systems, addressing key themes like justice reform, criminalisation, and legal ethics. Students are also required to complete Research Methods and Skills and an LLM Dissertation, which build research competence and independent critical thinking. In addition to compulsory modules, students can tailor their learning by selecting from a wide range of optional modules, including Crimes of the Powerful, Global Policing and Law Enforcement, International Human Rights Law, Medical Law and Ethics, International Financial Law, and Intellectual Property Law. This flexibility allows students to explore cross-cutting issues in international, corporate, and human rights law. The program’s balance of academic rigor, practical exposure, and interdisciplinary options equips graduates with the expertise needed to navigate complex legal challenges in today’s global justice system and pursue diverse professional or academic pathways in law and criminal justice.
