COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sports Studies with Psychology degree at the University of Hertfordshire combines the study of sport with psychological principles, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to excel in both fields. In the first year, students gain a foundational understanding of the sports industry, sport development, and the social and global context of sport, alongside core psychology modules covering human development, behaviour, and cognitive processes. The second year focuses on practical and applied aspects of high-performance sport, leadership, ethics, diversity, and global perspectives, as well as research methods and developing interventions for behaviour change. Optional modules such as cyberpsychology, mindfulness, and non-verbal behaviour allow students to tailor their learning to their interests. In the final year, students undertake professional practice and research projects, including the Sports Studies Research Dissertation and Sport Studies Experience Dissertation, alongside advanced modules in sport psychology, coaching, health psychology, behaviour change, and applied psychology fields such as forensic, clinical, educational, and occupational psychology. Opportunities for sandwich placements or study abroad enhance practical learning and professional development. The program emphasizes hands-on experience, critical thinking, and the application of psychology to sport and physical activity, preparing graduates for careers in sport science, coaching, performance analysis, psychology, and other related sectors, while fostering skills in research, leadership, and evidence-based practice.
