COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Sports Coaching degree provides students with a comprehensive education in coaching, combining academic study with practical experience in world-class sports facilities. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in the principles of sport and coaching, studying subjects such as sport business management, exercise prescription and fitness testing, anatomy and physiology for coaches, introduction to coaching, and practical coaching delivery. These modules help develop both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills, preparing students to work with athletes and teams across different sports contexts. In the second year, the focus shifts to applied coaching, high-performance practice, and research skills. Modules include process and practice in high-performance sport, coaching pedagogy, periodisation and planning in coaching, performance analysis in sport, leadership in sport, and sport finance, providing students with the ability to plan, evaluate, and manage coaching programs effectively. In the final year, students engage in professional practice and applied research through modules such as professional practice in sport coaching, coaching in the community, excellence in coaching, psychology in coaching, and contemporary issues in sport. Optional modules and a sports coaching dissertation allow students to specialise and explore areas of personal interest. The program also offers placement opportunities and a year abroad, ensuring students graduate with the practical experience and transferable skills needed for careers in coaching, sport development, and performance leadership.
