COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science degree offers a thorough grounding in the scientific principles underpinning exercise, performance, and health. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge in areas such as exercise prescription, fitness testing, musculoskeletal anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor control, and sport and exercise psychology, alongside academic skills to support their studies. This combination equips students with the essential understanding needed to analyse and enhance human performance. The second year builds on this foundation, with modules focusing on research design, physiology of training, sport and performance nutrition, and optional modules such as sports conditioning and testing and the health consequences of inactivity. These provide students with practical and theoretical insights into training, health, and performance optimisation, while developing research and analytical skills essential for evidence-based practice. In the third year, students apply their knowledge in real-world contexts through an applied independent sports research project and optional modules including contemporary issues in sport and exercise psychology, strength and conditioning, exercise as medicine, adaptive and environmental physiology, advanced biomechanics and motor control, leadership, and periodisation in coaching. The program combines practical experience, scientific understanding, and professional development, preparing graduates for careers in sport and exercise science, strength and conditioning, coaching, health and fitness, and performance analysis, equipping them with the skills to make a tangible impact in athletic, clinical, and community settings.
