COURSE CURRICULUM

The Professional Policing degree provides a thorough and practice-oriented education in modern policing, combining academic study with real-world application. In the first year, students gain a strong foundation in key policing principles through modules such as Introduction to Policing, Operational Policing, Criminal Law and Police Powers, and Criminology and Crime Prevention. They also explore crucial topics including ethics, public protection, safeguarding, and victim care, developing the interpersonal and ethical awareness essential for effective policing. In the second year, learning focuses on applying theory to practice through modules such as Police Investigation and Forensics, Evidence-Based Policing, Decision-Making in Practice, and Policing the Police, which encourage analytical thinking and professional reflection. Optional modules such as Armed Policing and Serious Sexual Offences allow students to tailor their learning to specialist areas of interest. The final year emphasises advanced policing strategies and research, with modules like Information, Intelligence and Serious Crime, Digital Policing and Cybercrime, Counter Terrorism and Extremism, and Community Policing. Students also complete an Applied Research Project, integrating academic insight with investigative practice.
