COURSE CURRICULUM

The paramedic science degree provides a comprehensive education designed to prepare students for a career as a skilled and competent paramedic. In the first year, students focus on foundational knowledge, including patient assessment, clinical science, and paramedic practice-based learning, alongside fundamentals of practice, psychological and sociological aspects of care, and an introduction to higher education. This combination of theory and practical skills ensures students are prepared to provide safe and effective care while developing professional competence. In the second year, the focus shifts to managing acute presentations, understanding pathophysiology, and emergency care, with modules covering trauma care, legal and ethical aspects, and evidence-based healthcare and research. Students continue to build hands-on experience through practice-based learning, applying theoretical knowledge in real-world clinical settings. The third year advances clinical and professional development, with modules addressing complex patient groups, obstetric and gynaecological emergencies, paediatrics, minor illness and injuries, and clinical pharmacology. Students also undertake research in paramedic practice and professional development, ensuring they are ready for leadership and specialist roles. Throughout the program, practice-based learning remains central, allowing students to develop confidence, competence, and critical thinking, while preparing them to join a global community of paramedics providing essential care in emergency situations and contributing to the advancement of the profession.
