COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Software Engineering degree is structured to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of software development, engineering principles, and computer science fundamentals. In the first year, students gain essential skills through modules such as Introduction to Programming and Discrete Structures, From Silicon to C, Data Modelling for Databases, Computational Problem Solving, and Team Software Project, building a foundation in programming, problem-solving, and collaborative project work. The second year expands technical expertise with modules in Algorithms and Data Structures, Operating Systems and Networks, Accessibility and Usability, Artificial Intelligence, Computing Things, Database Systems, and Principles and Practices of Large-Scale Programming, alongside Career Planning to support professional development. In the third year, students focus on advanced software engineering topics including Advanced Programming Paradigms, Responsible Computing, Software Architecture, Software Engineering Techniques, Software Quality, and the Software Engineering Project, which provides a substantial, practical capstone challenge. Optional modules such as Machine Learning and Neural Computing, Advanced Database Topics, Robotics, User Experience, and opportunities for a professional work placement or study abroad allow students to tailor their learning and gain industry-relevant experience.
