COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biomedical Science degree provides a comprehensive education in the study of human health, disease, and the underlying biological mechanisms. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge in molecular biology, genetics, cell biology, microbiology, human physiology with pharmacology, and core biochemistry. Optional modules in chemistry for the biological sciences, molecular structure and reactivity, and bioinformatics allow students to tailor their studies, while practical and transferable skills sessions ensure competence in laboratory techniques and scientific communication. In the second year, the curriculum expands to cover microbiology of disease, principles of immunology, cytology, histopathology, blood sciences, genes and genomes, and cell and molecular biology, with an opportunity for bioscience work experience to gain real-world insights. Students also develop research skills through dedicated bioscience research methods modules. The final year focuses on advanced biomedical topics, including cellular and molecular pathology, clinical immunology and microbial pathogenesis, and clinical biochemistry, alongside an independent project to develop research, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on laboratory experience, learn to interpret complex data, and develop a strong understanding of the causes, diagnoses, and treatments of diseases. The degree equips graduates with the practical and theoretical expertise necessary for careers in biomedical science, healthcare, research, or further scientific study.
