COURSE CURRICULUM

The Astrophysics with Space Science degree provides a rigorous and practical education in physics, mathematics, and space science, preparing students for careers in research, space technology, and scientific industries. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through core modules such as Special Relativity and Quantum Physics, Experimental Physics, The Physical Universe, Mathematical Methods, Applications of Calculus, and Computational Modelling, supported by small group tutorials. The second year introduces more specialized topics including Electromagnetism, Optics and Lasers, Thermodynamics, Space Science and Systems, Quantum Mechanics, Multivariable Calculus, and Programming, alongside optional modules in Physics of the Solar System and Extra-Solar Planets. Career planning and development modules help students prepare for future professional opportunities. In the final year, students engage with advanced topics including Rocket Performance and Propulsion, Space Dynamics, Geophysical Fluid Dynamics, Condensed States of Matter, and The Physics of Elementary Particles. Optional modules such as Satellite Communications, Foundations of Cosmology, and Applied Photonics allow further specialization. Central to the program is the Space Science and Physics Project and Investigative Skills module, where students conduct independent research under expert supervision. Opportunities for professional placements or a year abroad provide practical experience. The course equips students with analytical, computational, and problem-solving skills, combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on application to explore and understand the physical and technological challenges of space science and astrophysics.
