COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng Mechanical Engineering degree provides a comprehensive education in engineering principles and practical skills, preparing students for a broad range of careers in industry. In the first year, students develop a solid foundation in engineering fundamentals, mathematics, statics and dynamics, applied design, electrical science, programming, professional engineering practices, and mechatronic systems. This foundational knowledge supports understanding of core engineering concepts and problem-solving techniques. In the second year, the focus shifts to applied subjects such as fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, materials in engineering, sustainable design, dynamics and vibrations, structural mechanics, control systems, and industrial mechanics. These modules equip students with the analytical, design, and technical skills necessary to tackle complex engineering challenges. Throughout the degree, practical learning is embedded through project work and collaborative exercises that apply theoretical concepts to real-world problems. In the final year, students have the opportunity to take industrial placements or study abroad, while core modules in acoustics, renewable energy, advanced mechanics, lean manufacturing, and plant and thermal power systems further develop their expertise. The program culminates in an individual project, allowing students to integrate and demonstrate their technical knowledge and problem-solving abilities. Graduates emerge ready for roles in mechanical design, manufacturing, energy, and engineering management, or to progress to postgraduate study.
