COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree at the University of Hertfordshire provides a comprehensive education in both fundamental and advanced areas of electrical and electronic engineering. In the first year, students develop a solid foundation through modules covering engineering mathematics, circuit theory, analogue and digital electronics, programming, project planning, and professional engineering skills. This early focus equips students with the technical knowledge and problem-solving abilities essential for complex engineering tasks. In the second year, the curriculum advances to topics such as signals and systems, digital design and embedded systems, electric power and energy conversion, real-time systems, mechatronics, connected systems and IoT, and communication system principles. These modules integrate theoretical understanding with practical lab work and project-based learning, enabling students to apply engineering principles to real-world scenarios. The final year emphasizes specialization and professional readiness, offering modules in microelectronics and VLSI, intelligent systems and robotics, digital communication systems, digital signal processing, power systems and renewable energy, wireless networking, and a major individual project. Students can also choose to undertake a professional placement or study abroad, providing hands-on industry experience and global exposure. Graduates gain the technical expertise, practical experience, and professional skills needed to pursue careers in electrical engineering, robotics, power systems, embedded systems, and related fields, or to continue to postgraduate study.
