COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) Aerospace Engineering degree provides a thorough grounding in the principles and practices of modern aerospace engineering, preparing students for careers in aircraft design, systems development, and aviation technology. In the first year, students build a foundation in aerospace engineering through modules covering engineering mathematics, fundamental aerospace projects, mechanical science, electronics, programming, computer-aided design, and autonomous systems design. These modules ensure a broad understanding of the core technical skills required in the field. In the second year, learning progresses to more specialised topics, including applied aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, aerospace materials, aircraft systems and avionics, structural mechanics, systems integration, and modelling and control. Practical laboratory sessions and project work reinforce theoretical knowledge and encourage problem-solving, analytical thinking, and collaborative skills. In the final year, students undertake an individual aerospace project and explore advanced topics such as computational analysis of fluids and structures, flight testing, aircraft propulsion, professional engineering and quality management, with optional modules in aviation management, autonomous flight, and group design projects. The program includes an industrial placement and opportunities for study abroad, providing real-world experience and industry exposure. Graduates leave with the technical expertise, practical skills, and professional insight to excel in the aerospace sector and contribute to the design, development, and management of next-generation aircraft and aerospace systems.
