COURSE CURRICULUM

The illustration degree provides a comprehensive pathway for students to develop their creative and professional skills, preparing them for careers in illustration, design, and related industries. In the first year, students build foundational skills through modules such as Visual Communication, Visual Thinking: Histories, Theories and Context, and Illustration Essentials Part 1, establishing a strong grounding in both practical techniques and conceptual understanding. The second year focuses on advancing technical expertise and professional readiness, with core modules including Illustration Essentials Part 2, Illustration Studio Practice, Illustration Professional Development, Commissions, and Contextualising Contemporary Practice, alongside optional professional work experience opportunities. These modules allow students to engage with live projects, develop client-focused work, and refine their personal creative voice. In the final year, students consolidate their learning and demonstrate their capabilities through advanced modules such as Illustration Advanced Practice Parts 1 and 2, the Final Major Project in Illustration, and a Degree Essay. Optional placements or study abroad experiences further enhance practical understanding and exposure to global creative industries. The program emphasizes the development of originality, technical skill, and professional acumen, while fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
