COURSE CURRICULUM

The English language program is structured over three years, providing a comprehensive exploration of linguistics, communication, and language teaching. In the first year, students focus on foundational modules that develop core skills in understanding language and its use, including studies in language and mind, communication, interaction, and context, English language in use, language in the media, investigating language, and an introduction to both English linguistics and language teaching. These compulsory modules establish a strong grounding in theoretical and practical aspects of language. In the second year, students build on this foundation with a combination of compulsory and optional modules that allow specialization and practical skill development. Key compulsory modules include the sounds of English and English grammar, while optional modules provide opportunities to explore areas such as language in society, forensic linguistics, vocabulary, learning and teaching language, language competencies in career development, toolkit for linguistic research, and employability skills. The third year emphasizes advanced study, research, and practical experience, offering options in child language and communication, clinical linguistics, language processing, meaning and context, corpus-based studies, global Englishes, syntax, and gender in language. Students may also engage in short projects, extended research projects, and placements or a year abroad, combining academic learning with practical application to prepare for professional careers or further study.
