COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA in Education offers a comprehensive and flexible approach to understanding learning and educational practice across a variety of contexts. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in key areas such as the purpose of education, contemporary debates, digital learning, and observational practice, providing insight into how education shapes individuals and society. The second year broadens this knowledge with modules on curriculum, assessment, human development, neurodiversity, and equality, alongside opportunities for study abroad and optional courses in outdoor education and key debates in learning. This combination of theoretical and practical study encourages critical thinking and an appreciation of diverse learning needs. In the final year, students focus on specialisms such as mental health and well-being, special educational needs, or learning and teaching, while completing major projects including an education research project, designing an education-focused initiative, and developing a professional identity. These modules emphasize the application of knowledge to real-world educational challenges, preparing graduates to work confidently across schools, community programs, museums, workplaces, or other learning environments. The degree equips students with the skills to communicate effectively, engage with diverse learners, and pursue multiple career pathways, including further training for teaching, educational policy, or leadership roles, fostering both professional and personal growth.
