COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Early Childhood Education degree offers a comprehensive and practical approach to preparing students for careers in early years education. In the first year, students develop a strong foundation in promoting children's wellbeing, understanding identity, values, and voice, supporting play and learning, and exploring the child’s family, culture, and community. A first placement allows students to observe and engage with the curriculum in practice, providing hands-on experience from the start. In the second year, the focus shifts to applying theory in practice, with modules on developing identity, values, and voice, empowering children, inclusion and diversity, and enabling play. A second placement allows students to explore curriculum approaches in real-world settings, while an optional study abroad opportunity broadens global perspectives. The third year emphasizes professional development and leadership, with modules on working in partnerships for children, developing a specialist area, and enhancing curriculum delivery during a third placement. Students also focus on becoming advocates for children and improving their practice through inquiry, fostering critical reflection and professional growth. Across the program, theoretical knowledge is integrated with practical experience, equipping graduates with the skills, confidence, and insight required to make a meaningful impact in early childhood education and support children’s development effectively.
