COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminology and Criminal Justice degree provides an in-depth understanding of crime, justice, and society, combining theory with practical insights. In the first year, students explore the foundations of criminology through modules such as Introduction to Criminology, Criminal Justice Process, Criminal Investigation, and Introduction to Forensic Psychology. These modules develop essential analytical and research skills while examining how crime is portrayed in the media. The second year builds on this foundation with core modules like Criminological Thinking, Crime and Criminal Behaviour, and Practical Criminology, which enhance critical analysis and real-world application. Optional modules, including Crime Prevention and Community Safety, Gender in Criminology, and Youth Justice and Crime, allow students to tailor their studies to specific interests within the field. In the final year, students undertake a Criminology Project, applying their knowledge through independent research, while exploring advanced topics such as Transnational Crime, Crimes of the Powerful, and Rehabilitation of Offenders. Optional modules like Green Criminology, Hate Crime and Discrimination, and Victims of Crime further broaden their perspective on justice and social inequality.
