COURSE CURRICULUM

This architecture degree provides a comprehensive foundation in design, technology, sustainability, and the history and theory of architecture, guiding students from fundamental principles to complex projects. In the first year, students develop essential design skills through studios focusing on design principles and private houses, alongside modules in technology and sustainability, design skills, and the history and theory of architecture. This establishes a strong understanding of both creative practice and technical knowledge. In the second year, students advance to more complex projects, including public buildings and urban design, while continuing to develop expertise in design technology, sustainability, and architectural history and theory, with a focus on the relationship between people, buildings, and cities. The curriculum blends practical studio work with theoretical and technical learning, ensuring a well-rounded education. In the third year, students have the option of a year abroad or a sandwich placement to gain professional experience. They undertake advanced studio projects, including retrofitting and a final project, alongside professional studies and further modules on design technology, sustainability, and architectural history culminating in a dissertation. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to integrate creativity, technical skill, and critical thinking, preparing them for a career in architecture and enabling progression to professional accreditation.
