COURSE CURRICULUM

The animation program at Kent provides a structured and comprehensive pathway for students to develop expertise in 2D and digital animation, combining creativity, technical skills, and professional practice. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules in computer-generated imagery, applying CG techniques, creative thinking, concept and story development, and animated thinking, establishing a strong base in both practical and conceptual aspects of animation. The second year focuses on progression and deeper creative engagement, with core modules in advancing 2D animation, creative project work, design, interactivity, professional practices, and moving visions, allowing students to refine their skills and explore the professional applications of their craft. Opportunities for a year abroad or international experience are available, broadening cultural and creative perspectives. In the final year, students undertake pre-production for 2D animation and a substantial professional practices and degree project, integrating their accumulated knowledge and skills into a portfolio of work. Additional modules on articulated research and writing provide critical and reflective tools for professional development. Optional study or employment experiences enhance real-world exposure and industry readiness. Overall, the program equips students with the technical proficiency, creative vision, and professional competencies needed to excel in the competitive animation industry, preparing them for successful careers worldwide.
