COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Cyber Security curriculum provides a balanced combination of advanced technical knowledge, research capability, and management expertise to prepare students for professional roles in cyber security. All students complete a set of core Level 7 modules that build a strong foundation in the field. The Cyber Security Principles module introduces essential concepts, security frameworks, and modern defence strategies against cyber threats, while Network Security focuses on securing communication networks, identifying vulnerabilities, and implementing protective technologies. Information Security Management develops an understanding of governance, risk management, security policies, compliance requirements, and organisational security practices. Human Factors in Cyber Security explores the impact of human behaviour, social engineering, security awareness, and user-centred approaches to reducing cyber risks. Research Methods for Computing equips students with academic and professional research skills, including data collection, analysis, critical evaluation, and research design, preparing them for independent investigation. These skills are applied in the Dissertation module, where students conduct an in-depth research project on a cyber security topic, demonstrating technical expertise, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Alongside the compulsory modules, students can customise their studies by selecting optional modules that match their interests and career goals. Secure System Architecture focuses on designing secure computing infrastructures and resilient systems, while Advanced Malware Analysis develops expertise in analysing malicious software, identifying attack techniques, and implementing effective countermeasures. Adversarial Behaviour examines cyber attackers, threat actors, and behavioural analysis to improve defence strategies. Artificial Intelligence explores AI concepts and their applications in solving cyber security challenges, whereas Network Security Administration provides practical experience in configuring, managing, and protecting enterprise networks. Blockchain Technology introduces distributed ledger systems, cryptographic techniques, and secure digital transactions with applications across various industries. Overall, the programme combines technical expertise, research skills, business awareness, and emerging technologies to prepare graduates for careers such as Cyber Security Analyst, Information Security Manager, Security Consultant, Security Architect, Network Security Specialist, Digital Forensics Expert, Threat Intelligence Analyst, and other advanced cyber security and information assurance roles across public and private sectors.
