COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Construction Project Management is a one-year full-time postgraduate programme designed to develop advanced leadership, technical, and management skills required for senior roles within the construction industry. The course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles, processes, and challenges involved in managing construction projects throughout their entire lifecycle, from planning and procurement to completion and operational delivery. Students begin by studying Fundamentals of Construction Project Management, which introduces the key concepts, methodologies, and responsibilities associated with successfully delivering construction projects while balancing quality, cost, time, and sustainability objectives. Research Methods for Built Environment develops the analytical and investigative skills required for evidence-based decision making and prepares students for independent research activities and professional practice. The programme also covers Construction Procurement, Contracts and Law, enabling students to understand procurement strategies, contractual arrangements, legal responsibilities, and dispute management within the construction sector. Modern Methods of Sustainable Construction explores innovative building technologies, sustainable materials, and environmentally responsible construction practices that address contemporary industry challenges. Students further develop expertise in Building Information Modelling through BIM in Construction Operation and Design Coordination, learning how digital technologies improve collaboration, project efficiency, and lifecycle management. Modules such as People, Organisational Management, and Managerial Finance strengthen leadership, communication, financial management, and organisational skills essential for managing multidisciplinary teams and complex projects. Construction Project Quality and Safety Management focuses on maintaining high standards of quality assurance, risk management, health, and safety throughout project delivery, while Advanced Construction Project Management develops strategic decision-making and leadership capabilities for large-scale and complex projects. The programme concludes with a Masters Dissertation or Major Project, module code AD7600, allowing students to undertake substantial independent research or an applied industry project that demonstrates their ability to address real-world construction management challenges. Graduates are prepared for careers in project management, consultancy, construction leadership, and the wider built environment sector.
