COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Advanced Professional Practice curriculum provides a flexible and interdisciplinary framework that enables experienced healthcare, social care, and allied health professionals to develop advanced clinical, leadership, research, education, and service improvement capabilities. All students complete Research, Audit and Service Evaluation Methods, which develops advanced skills in evidence-based practice, research design, critical appraisal, clinical audit, quality improvement, and service evaluation to support continuous improvement in professional practice. The Advanced Professional Practice Independent Project enables students to undertake an original research or service development project, applying advanced analytical, research, and problem-solving skills to address a significant issue within their professional field. Personal Impact and Professional Development for Advanced Practice focuses on reflective practice, professional identity, resilience, ethical decision-making, communication, and lifelong learning, helping students strengthen their effectiveness as advanced practitioners. Building Your Authority: Leading and Driving Service Delivery and Development develops leadership, strategic management, organisational change, innovation, policy implementation, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills required to improve healthcare and social care services. Students can personalise the programme by selecting specialist optional modules aligned with their professional roles and career goals. Options include Assessment, Diagnosis and Decision Making for Advanced Clinical Practice, Specialist Clinical Practice, Primary Care, Mental Health Practice, End of Life Care, Women's Health, COPD, Stroke Care, Bladder and Bowel Health, Pain Management, Anaesthetic Patient Care, Leg Ulcer Management, Frailty and Older Adult Care, Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies, Pre-Hospital Enhanced Care Skills, Public Health and Well-being, Independent and Supplementary Prescribing, Teaching, Coaching and Supervision, Practice Education, Individual Learning Contracts, Specialist Professional Practice, and Preceptorship for Healthcare Practice. The curriculum also includes specialist pathways for social work through modules such as Advancing Social Work Practice, The Critical Social Work Professional, Advanced Social Work Practitioner Skills, and Teaching and Assessing Work-based Learning. Throughout the programme, students strengthen leadership, critical thinking, communication, education, research, and evidence-based practice skills while enhancing their ability to lead service improvement and deliver high-quality care.
