COURSE CURRICULUM
The MA Inclusive Education curriculum provides an advanced understanding of inclusive educational practice, diversity, ethics, pedagogy, sustainability, and research, preparing students to lead and support inclusive learning across a wide range of educational settings. The programme begins with Ethics for Educators, which examines professional ethics, equality, social justice, inclusion, safeguarding, and ethical decision-making, enabling students to understand the responsibilities of educators in creating fair and supportive learning environments. Research 1: Philosophy, Principles & Practice introduces the philosophical foundations of educational research, covering research methodologies, ethics, critical inquiry, and evidence-based approaches that underpin high-quality educational practice. Pedagogies, Principles & Practice explores contemporary teaching and learning theories, curriculum design, assessment strategies, differentiated instruction, and inclusive pedagogical approaches that support learners with diverse educational needs. Inclusion: Diversity, Communities & Culture focuses on the principles of inclusive education by examining diversity, cultural awareness, community engagement, equality, Special Educational Needs (SEN), and the barriers that affect participation and achievement, helping students develop strategies that promote belonging and educational equity. Education and Sustainability examines the role of education in fostering sustainable development, environmental responsibility, global citizenship, and socially responsible educational leadership while encouraging sustainable practices within learning environments. SEMH: Medical Constructs and Lived Experiences of 21st Century Learners explores social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH), analysing both medical and social perspectives while examining how emotional wellbeing, mental health, and lived experiences influence learning, inclusion, and educational outcomes. Research 2: Making Meanings develops advanced research skills through qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, interpretation, critical evaluation, and academic writing, preparing students to conduct independent educational research. The programme concludes with the Dissertation: Inclusive Education, where students undertake an original research project focused on an area of inclusive education, applying the theoretical knowledge, research capability, and critical analysis developed throughout the programme. Throughout the course, students strengthen their leadership, communication, research, reflective practice, and problem-solving skills while engaging with current educational research and contemporary inclusion issues. Overall, the curriculum prepares graduates for careers as Inclusive Education Specialists, SEN Coordinators (SENCOs), Educational Leaders, Curriculum Developers, Teacher Educators, Educational Consultants, Policy Advisors, Local Authority Officers, Learning Support Managers, researchers, and leadership professionals across schools, colleges, universities, government agencies, charities, and organisations dedicated to promoting equitable, inclusive, and high-quality education for all learners.
