COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Education curriculum provides a comprehensive and contemporary study of educational theory, policy, pedagogy, ethics, sustainability, and research, preparing students for leadership, professional practice, and advanced study within the education sector. The programme begins with Ethics for Educators, which examines ethical principles, professional responsibilities, social justice, equality, inclusion, and the moral dimensions of educational decision-making. Research 1: Philosophy, Principles & Practice introduces the philosophical foundations of educational research, enabling students to understand research paradigms, methodologies, ethics, and the principles that underpin high-quality educational inquiry. Pedagogies, Principles & Practice explores contemporary teaching and learning theories, curriculum design, assessment strategies, learner engagement, and innovative instructional approaches that enhance educational outcomes across diverse learning environments. Educational Policy: Critical Perspectives develops an understanding of national and international education policies, examining how political, economic, cultural, and social factors influence educational systems, institutions, and professional practice while encouraging critical evaluation of policy development and implementation. Education and Sustainability focuses on the role of education in promoting sustainable development, environmental responsibility, global citizenship, and social equity, preparing students to integrate sustainability into educational practice and leadership. Transformational Education for 21st Century Learners examines innovative approaches to teaching, leadership, technology integration, digital learning, creativity, collaboration, and the development of future-ready learners capable of thriving in rapidly changing societies. Research 2: Making Meanings builds upon earlier research training by developing advanced qualitative and quantitative research skills, critical data analysis, interpretation, and academic writing, enabling students to design and conduct independent educational research. The programme concludes with the Dissertation: Education, where students undertake an original research project on a topic relevant to their professional interests, applying the theoretical knowledge, research methods, and critical analysis developed throughout the course. Throughout the programme, students strengthen their analytical thinking, communication, leadership, reflective practice, and evidence-based decision-making skills while engaging with current educational research and contemporary issues. Overall, the curriculum prepares graduates for careers in teaching, educational leadership, curriculum development, education policy, teacher training, educational consultancy, academic research, school and college management, government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and higher education, while also providing an excellent foundation for doctoral study and continued professional development.
