COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physiotherapy programme follows a comprehensive three-year curriculum designed to develop students into skilled, evidence-based, and compassionate physiotherapists capable of working across a wide range of healthcare settings. During the first year, students establish strong scientific and clinical foundations through modules including Physiotherapy Practice 1, Functional Anatomy, Systems Anatomy and Physiology, Exercise, Health and Wellbeing, Scientific Enquiry, and Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy 1. These modules provide students with a detailed understanding of human body systems, movement, exercise science, and the physiological processes involved in health, illness, and rehabilitation. Students also begin developing practical physiotherapy skills and clinical reasoning abilities that form the basis of professional practice. In the second year, students expand their clinical knowledge and practical expertise through modules including Physiotherapy Practice 2 and 3, Integrated Care, Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, Neurological Physiotherapy, and Research Design and Analysis. These modules develop specialist understanding of the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients with musculoskeletal injuries, neurological conditions, and complex healthcare needs while promoting multidisciplinary collaboration and patient-centred care. Students also strengthen their research skills and ability to apply evidence-based practice to clinical decision-making. During the final year, students focus on advanced professional development and preparation for employment through modules including Physiotherapy Practice 4 and 5, Leadership and Innovation, Rehabilitation Skills in Long-term Condition Management, Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy 2, and an Independent Project. Students gain expertise in managing patients with chronic and complex conditions while developing leadership, service improvement, and innovation skills required for modern healthcare environments. The Independent Project allows students to investigate a specific area of physiotherapy practice in greater depth while strengthening analytical and research capabilities. Throughout all three years, practical learning and clinical placements provide valuable opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge within NHS and private healthcare settings while working alongside multidisciplinary teams and experienced clinicians. Overall, the programme combines scientific knowledge, clinical skills, research capability, and professional development to prepare graduates for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council and successful careers as physiotherapists across diverse areas of healthcare practice.
