COURSE CURRICULUM

The Paramedic Science programme follows a structured three-year curriculum designed to develop students into competent, confident, and professional paramedics capable of delivering high-quality emergency and urgent care across a wide range of healthcare environments. During the first year, students establish strong foundations in professional practice, clinical sciences, and patient care through modules including Professionalism in Paramedic Practice, Foundations of Evidence-Based Practice 1, Paramedic Practice 1, and Foundations of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathophysiology. These modules introduce students to the professional responsibilities of paramedics while developing an understanding of human body systems, disease processes, clinical assessment, and the principles of evidence-based healthcare practice. Students begin developing the practical skills and clinical knowledge required to assess and manage patients safely and effectively within pre-hospital environments. In the second year, students build upon these foundations through modules such as Applied Pathophysiology and Pharmacology, Foundations of Evidence-Based Practice 2, Paramedic Practice 2, and Urgent and Emergency Care 1. This stage of the programme develops a deeper understanding of medical conditions, medicines management, and the treatment of patients experiencing urgent and emergency situations. Students strengthen their clinical reasoning abilities and gain experience in making informed decisions in complex and challenging healthcare scenarios. During the final year, students focus on advanced practice and professional readiness through modules including Advanced Clinical Decision-Making, Foundations of Evidence-Based Practice 3, Paramedic Practice 3, and Urgent and Emergency Care 2. These modules develop higher-level clinical judgement, leadership abilities, and advanced patient management skills required for independent professional practice. Students learn to manage complex emergencies while integrating evidence-based practice into clinical decision-making and patient care planning. Throughout all three years, practical training and clinical placements provide valuable opportunities to apply theoretical learning in real healthcare settings and work alongside multidisciplinary teams and ambulance service professionals. The programme places strong emphasis on professionalism, communication, patient safety, and compassionate care. Overall, the course equips graduates with the scientific knowledge, clinical competence, and practical experience required for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council and successful careers as paramedics within emergency healthcare services.
