COURSE CURRICULUM
The Diagnostic Radiography programme follows a structured three-year curriculum designed to develop students' scientific understanding, clinical expertise, professional skills, and research abilities required for modern radiographic practice. During the first year, students build a strong foundation in imaging science and healthcare through modules including Radiographic Science 1, Radiographic Anatomy 1, Radiographic Skills 1, Professional Development and Research, and Practice Placement 1. These modules introduce the principles of medical imaging, human anatomy, patient care, and professional practice while allowing students to begin applying theoretical knowledge during supervised clinical placements in healthcare settings. In the second year, students expand their knowledge and technical capabilities through Radiographic Science 2, Radiographic Anatomy 2, Radiographic Skills 2, Quality Improvement and Research, and Practice Placement 2. This stage of the programme develops a deeper understanding of imaging technologies, anatomical interpretation, image quality, and evidence-based healthcare practice while increasing clinical responsibilities during placement experiences. Students also learn how quality improvement initiatives and research contribute to safer and more effective patient care within diagnostic imaging departments. In the final year, students focus on advanced clinical practice and professional readiness through modules including Radiographic Pathways, Preparation for Practice, Radiographic Skills 3, Independent Research Project, Practice Placement 3, and Leadership and Innovation. These modules prepare students for the transition to professional employment by developing advanced imaging skills, clinical decision-making abilities, leadership qualities, and innovation in healthcare practice. The Independent Research Project allows students to investigate an area of diagnostic radiography in greater depth while strengthening research and analytical skills. Throughout all three years, extensive practice placements provide valuable real-world experience and opportunities to work with patients and multidisciplinary healthcare teams in clinical environments. Overall, the programme combines academic study, clinical placements, research, and professional development to prepare graduates for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council and successful careers as diagnostic radiographers within hospitals and healthcare organisations.
