COURSE CURRICULUM
The Game Development degree is a three-year undergraduate programme focused on preparing students for careers in the technical and creative areas of the global gaming industry. The course combines programming, mathematics, game design, artificial intelligence, graphics technology, and software development to help students create advanced interactive experiences. Students develop the ability to design, build, and optimise games while gaining practical experience with modern game engines and professional development workflows. In the first year, students establish strong foundations through modules such as Games Production, Game Engine Scripting, Programming and Mathematics, and Programming Algorithms and Techniques. These modules introduce students to core game development concepts including gameplay creation, level design, user interaction, interface development, coding principles, problem-solving, and team-based project management. Students work collaboratively to develop games from client briefs while learning how professional game production processes operate. In the second year, students advance their technical skills through modules including Game Engine Programming, Level Design, Experimental Games, Professional Awareness, and Programming Games Architecture. These modules focus on developing and implementing games using different programming environments, improving coding abilities, exploring innovative game concepts, and understanding the architecture behind complex gaming systems. Students learn how to create efficient gameplay mechanics and develop technically advanced projects. In the final year, students specialise in advanced areas through modules such as Individual Research Project, Advanced Group Project, Advanced AI Algorithms, and Graphics Programming with Shaders. Optional modules such as Advanced Concepts in Gaming, Indie Game Development, and Personal Portfolio allow students to explore specific interests and strengthen their professional profiles. The course encourages research, innovation, creativity, and independent development, enabling students to investigate emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, graphics programming, and advanced game systems. Graduates can pursue careers as game programmers, gameplay engineers, AI developers, graphics programmers, technical game designers, VR developers, and independent game creators. With strong programming skills, practical project experience, and a professional portfolio, students are prepared to contribute to the future of game development and interactive entertainment.
