COURSE CURRICULUM

The Game Design and Development degree is a three-year undergraduate programme focused on preparing students for careers in the global gaming and interactive entertainment industry. The course combines creative design, technical development, digital production, and teamwork to help students create engaging and innovative gaming experiences. In the first year, students develop essential foundations through modules such as Games Production, Creative Skills for Design, Introduction to 3D Modelling, and Mobile Design. These modules introduce students to game development processes, level creation, interface design, interactive elements, project management, documentation, and collaborative production workflows. Students gain practical experience by working in teams to create games based on professional client briefs while developing their creative and technical abilities. In the second year, students expand their knowledge through advanced modules including 3D Animations for Games, Level Design, Experimental Games, Professional Awareness, Virtual and Augmented Reality, and User Testing. These modules allow students to explore advanced modelling techniques, animation, immersive technologies, gameplay experimentation, industry tools, and methods for evaluating player experiences. Students develop stronger design skills and learn how to create high-quality gaming products through professional workflows and teamwork. In the final year, students focus on advanced game development, research, and professional practice through modules such as Individual Research Project, Advanced Group Project, Advanced Concepts in Gaming, Indie Game Development, and optional areas including 3D Character Development, Games Narrative Design, and Personal Portfolio. Students complete independent research and major development projects that demonstrate their creativity, technical knowledge, and ability to solve complex design challenges. The programme provides valuable experience with industry-standard software, development methods, and emerging technologies such as virtual and augmented reality. Graduates can pursue careers as game designers, level designers, 3D artists, character artists, gameplay developers, UX designers, narrative designers, game producers, and independent game developers. With a strong portfolio and practical project experience, students are prepared to contribute to the rapidly evolving global games industry.
