COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sports Management degree is a three-year undergraduate programme designed to develop future leaders and professionals for the global sports industry. The course combines business management, leadership, finance, marketing, governance, and specialist sports knowledge to help students understand the complex operations of modern sports organisations. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules such as The Global Business Environment, Sports Management, Academic, Personal and Professional Development, Managing Finance, Live Management Enquiry Project, Marketing Principles, and Introduction to Sport Sociology and Ethics. These modules introduce students to key areas including sports administration, financial decision-making, marketing strategies, professional skills, ethical issues, and the social impact of sport. In the second year, students progress into more specialised areas with modules including Professional Sports Business, Sports Governance, Ethics and Law, Managing Projects to Achieve Results, Digital Marketing Fundamentals, Transformational Leadership in Sport, and Managing High Performance Sport. Students develop advanced knowledge of commercial sports operations, project management, leadership approaches, digital promotion, governance frameworks, and strategies for improving performance within sports organisations. The final year focuses on strategic thinking, research, and leadership through modules such as Sustainability and Globally Responsible Leadership, Strategic Sports Management, Capstone Business Project, Consuming Sport: Identities, Media and Capital(s), Coach Development Models and Systems, and Ethical Sports Governance. Students develop the ability to analyse complex challenges, conduct independent research, manage change, and apply ethical and sustainable approaches to sports leadership. The programme provides opportunities to connect academic learning with real-world sports environments through practical projects, industry engagement, case studies, and professional experiences. Graduates can pursue careers in sports management, high-performance sport leadership, sports event management, coaching development, sports marketing, governance, consultancy, and roles within professional clubs, governing bodies, and community sports organisations.
