COURSE CURRICULUM

The programme provides a structured and progressive approach to developing artistic practice through drawing, studio work, research, and professional development. In the initial stage, students study modules including Drawing, Workshops, Establishing Studio Practice, and Environments, which introduce drawing as a fundamental method for understanding and engaging with the world while enhancing visual awareness and observational skills. Students explore drawing as an expanded process for observing, recording, analysing, and interpreting visual material while developing techniques for locating, collecting, and organising research to support creative practice. Through scheduled teaching sessions and independent study, students build strong foundations in both practical and conceptual approaches to art-making. As students progress, modules such as Expanded Drawing, Developing Studio Practice, Object and Image, Site and Fabrication, and Dialogues encourage a deeper engagement with visual research and studio methodologies. Drawing is developed as a sustainable and adaptable tool for inquiry, experimentation, and critical reflection, while students refine personal methods for documenting, analysing, and organising research that informs their creative work. The programme promotes independent thinking and encourages students to establish their own artistic identity through sustained studio practice and investigation across a variety of contexts and materials. In the final stage, modules including Professional Studies: Art, Work, Life, Sustaining Studio Practice, Exhibition, and Practice-Based Research prepare students for careers within the creative industries and further academic study. Particular emphasis is placed on professional practice, career planning, exhibition design, and curatorial approaches to presenting artwork. Students gain valuable experience in organising and exhibiting their work while developing the knowledge and professional skills required to navigate opportunities beyond university. Overall, the programme combines creative experimentation, research, studio practice, and professional development to prepare graduates for successful careers as independent artists and creative practitioners.
