COURSE CURRICULUM
The course is structured over three years and develops students’ understanding of education, inclusion, diversity and professional practice through a combination of theory, research and practical application. In the first year, students build the academic, personal and digital skills required for success in higher education while exploring how people learn and develop in different educational environments. Modules introduce educational practice, mental health and wellbeing, the role of society in shaping educational opportunities and the importance of diversity, equality and inclusion in learning communities. Students also examine topics such as neurodiversity, learning differences, positive psychology and reflective practice to better understand themselves and others as learners. During the second year, students strengthen their research abilities and professional knowledge through practical engagement with educational research methods and ethical inquiry. They explore the influence of relationships, identity and social interaction on learning, examine global education and sustainability issues, and investigate educational experiences beyond traditional classroom settings. A strong emphasis is placed on inclusive practice, supporting diverse needs and understanding how education can respond effectively to learners with different backgrounds, abilities and experiences. Optional modules allow students to further explore digital learning or the role of motivation and mindset in educational achievement. In the final year, students undertake an independent dissertation project, enabling them to investigate a topic related to inclusion, psychology, special educational needs and disabilities or digital learning in greater depth. Additional modules focus on coaching and mentoring, community development, creating inclusive environments and addressing contemporary issues affecting education. Throughout the programme, students develop advanced research, communication, critical thinking and professional skills while learning to apply inclusive and ethical approaches in educational settings. Graduates leave with the confidence and expertise needed for careers in education, support services, community organisations and postgraduate professional pathways including teacher training.
