COURSE CURRICULUM
The course is structured over three years and gradually develops students’ understanding of education, psychology and professional practice. In the first year, students build a strong foundation by studying how people learn and succeed in higher education, exploring educational practice and understanding the psychological processes involved in learning and development. Modules examine the importance of mental health and wellbeing in education, the role education plays in shaping society and opportunities, and how diversity and inclusion influence learning experiences across different communities and cultures. During the second year, students deepen their knowledge of educational research methods and develop professional skills required for careers in education and related fields. They explore how relationships, identity and social interactions influence learning, investigate global educational challenges and sustainability, and examine how learning can take place beyond traditional classroom environments. Students also study motivation, mindsets and factors that influence achievement and engagement in education. Optional modules allow further specialisation in supporting learners with diverse needs or understanding teaching and learning in increasingly digital educational environments. In the final year, students undertake an independent dissertation research project, allowing them to investigate an educational topic of personal interest in greater depth. Advanced modules focus on coaching and mentoring approaches, community development, professional practice in education and psychology, and the development of critical and reflective thinking skills that support lifelong learning. Students also explore the impact of trauma, adversity and challenging life experiences on educational outcomes and wellbeing. Throughout the programme, emphasis is placed on developing research ability, communication, critical thinking, professional practice and practical application of psychological knowledge within educational settings, preparing graduates for a wide range of careers and postgraduate study opportunities.
