COURSE CURRICULUM

The Dance programme offers a comprehensive three-year curriculum designed to develop versatile, creative, and industry-ready dancers with expertise in performance, choreography, teaching, and professional practice. During the first year, students establish strong technical and artistic foundations through modules including Dance Techniques 1, Dance Performance 1, Foundations of Choreography, The Healthy Dancer, Performance in Context, and The Creative Professional. Students participate in a wide variety of practical classes that develop dance technique, movement quality, musicality, performance skills, and safe and inclusive dance practice across multiple styles and genres. Alongside practical training, students explore the historical and cultural contexts of performance while gaining an understanding of professional expectations within the creative industries. In the second year, students build upon their technical and creative skills through modules including Collaborative Performance and Production, Dance Techniques 2, Dance Performance 2, Developing Choreographic Practice, The Arts in Education, and Approaches to Research. A distinctive feature of this stage is the opportunity to collaborate with students from Acting and Musical Theatre programmes on shared performance projects, encouraging interdisciplinary learning and creative exchange. Students also explore the relationship between performance and technology while gaining insight into technical theatre and production processes. These experiences help students develop collaboration, communication, and leadership skills while broadening their understanding of contemporary performance practices. During the final year, students continue refining their artistic identity and professional capabilities through modules including Dance Techniques 3, Dance Performance 3, Industry Showcase, and a Major Research Project, with optional opportunities to study Technical Theatre and The Arts Practitioner. Students further develop their technical proficiency, performance confidence, and understanding of global approaches to dance while preparing for employment within the performing arts sector. The Industry Showcase provides opportunities to present work to industry professionals and potential employers, while the Major Research Project develops independent research and critical thinking skills. Throughout the programme, students benefit from extensive practical training and performance opportunities while developing resilience, creativity, and professional awareness.
