COURSE CURRICULUM

The Primary PGCE with SEND specialism at UEA provides a well-structured and immersive training experience that balances academic learning with hands-on classroom practice. You will follow a program of professional training closely aligned with the primary curriculum while exploring additional insights into the teaching and learning of children with special educational needs and disabilities. The course includes two main placements across different age groups and contrasting schools, allowing for a broad and varied understanding of classroom dynamics and educational settings. In addition to school placements, the course is structured around four compulsory modules. “The Learning Child” focuses on child development, subject-specific pedagogy, and how to adapt teaching for diverse learners. “The Developing Teacher” explores professional behaviours, behaviour management, and inclusive practice, drawing on educational theory and practical application. “The Reflective Practitioner” helps you build essential reflective skills through consideration of both placement and university experiences. “Primary Years Teaching Practice (with Specialism)” links classroom practice with university learning and focuses on meeting the Teachers’ Standards through continual evaluation, hands-on experience, and four Intensive Training and Practice (ITaP) components. The program is designed to nurture skilled, confident, and reflective practitioners who are ready to meet the diverse needs of their pupils and successfully transition into the Early Career Teacher phase.
