The PGCE course for teaching children aged 3-7 is structured to provide both theoretical knowledge and practical teaching experience, preparing you for a rewarding career in the classroom. The course includes two main school placements, allowing you to teach across two different age bands, with placements usually arranged in contrasting schools to offer a broad range of teaching experiences.The course includes four compulsory modules to ensure a well-rounded professional development. "The Learning Child" (EDUP7003Y) is a 30-credit module that focuses on meeting the subject knowledge requirements across the National Curriculum, helping you understand how children develop and learn. It also covers adapting teaching to meet the needs of diverse learners and the role of assessment, with a combination of university sessions and self-directed activities."The Developing Teacher" (EDUP7007Y) is another 30-credit module that emphasizes developing your professional behavior, behavior management skills, and inclusive practice. It incorporates university-led sessions with practical analysis of educational theories, ensuring that you grow as a teacher regardless of your prior experience."The Reflective Practitioner" (EDUP7010Y) focuses on helping you develop reflective teaching practices, which is essential for continuous improvement in your career. This 30-credit module encourages self-reflection based on your experiences throughout the course and placements.Finally, "Primary Years Teaching Practice" (EDUP7004Y) is a 1-credit module that ensures you meet the Teachers' Standards and provides opportunities to apply your learning theories and teaching practices in real school settings.
