COURSE CURRICULUM

The Primary PGCE (3-7) course offers a thorough professional development experience combining academic study and practical training. Designed for teaching in the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1, it provides a strong foundation for becoming a confident and capable teacher. The course includes two contrasting school placements, allowing you to gain diverse classroom experience across different age groups within the primary age range. The course focuses on developing skills in teaching and learning, with an emphasis on understanding how children develop, managing classroom behavior, and fostering inclusive teaching practices. A key feature of the program is its emphasis on teaching children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), ensuring that you can cater to diverse learning needs. The modules cover essential areas such as child development, subject knowledge across the curriculum, and strategies for effective teaching. You will engage in both taught university sessions and self-directed learning activities to build your knowledge and skills. The course also includes opportunities for critical reflection on your teaching practice, helping you develop as a reflective practitioner. The Primary Years Teaching Practice module allows you to apply what you’ve learned in the classroom, linking university-based learning with real-world teaching experiences. Throughout the program, you will work towards meeting the Teachers’ Standards and develop a strong understanding of how to promote pupil progress. By the end of the course, you will be equipped with the tools and expertise to teach in the early years and Key Stage 1, with a clear focus on creating inclusive learning environments for all children.
