COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Sustainability and Society at UEA is a one-year, full-time program designed for advanced students and practitioners interested in understanding the intersection of sustainability and society. The program includes a combination of taught modules and a research dissertation, designed to equip students with essential skills and knowledge in the field. Core modules focus on key concepts in sustainability, and practical experiences allow students to apply their learning to real-world issues in collaboration with partner organizations. Students can further specialize through a range of optional modules that align with their specific interests and career objectives. Throughout the year, students will develop essential research, methodological, and analytical skills needed to complete their dissertation, which will be supported by a faculty advisor. The program also includes compulsory modules such as Research Skills, which trains students in research design, social science methods, and data analysis, all essential for their dissertation. Another core module, Sustainability, Science, and Society, provides advanced training in understanding the relationships between science, technology, and sustainability challenges, as well as methods for public engagement. The Sustainability, Science, and Society in Practice module builds on these theories, offering students the chance to apply them to real-world sustainability challenges in partnership with external organizations. Through these modules and the dissertation, students will develop high-demand skills for employers across sectors such as government, business, NGOs, and academia. By the end of the program, graduates will be well-prepared to drive sustainable change in a variety of professional contexts.
