COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Stem Cells in Development, Disease and Regeneration is a one-year, full-time course designed to equip students with deep theoretical knowledge and extensive practical skills in stem cell biology and its applications across life sciences. The program blends lectures, hands-on lab training, and a year-long research project tailored to individual interests. It examines how stem cells function in development, offering insights into how tissues and organs are naturally formed; in disease, where patient-derived or gene-edited stem cells help model and investigate conditions; and in regeneration, where stem cells are used for therapeutic purposes. A central feature of the course is the opportunity to engage in a detailed research project within a chosen organ system, such as the cardiovascular, pulmonary, nervous, or gastrointestinal systems. The curriculum includes core modules such as Data Science and Bioinformatics, where students learn to handle and analyse biological data using high-performance computing; and Problem Based Learning in Biosciences, which strengthens skills in literature analysis, teamwork, and scientific reasoning. In Effective Communication in Science, students develop essential communication and career development abilities, including scientific writing and ethical awareness. The Research Planning and Management module supports project planning and proposal writing, setting the stage for the culminating Research Project where students generate and analyse original data. Overall, the course is designed to prepare graduates for competitive entry into PhD programs or roles in academic, clinical, or industrial research, and it provides a comprehensive skill set for future leaders in biomedical science.
