COURSE CURRICULUM

This one-year full-time Master’s program is structured to equip students with a deep understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of evidence-based policy and impact evaluation within the context of development. The course begins with a strong foundation in evaluation theory and practical applications, enabling students to critically assess the effects of development interventions across different sectors. A key component is learning cost-benefit analysis and policy application in various real-world contexts. The program offers an extensive overview of impact evaluation methods, both qualitative and quantitative, with an emphasis on hands-on learning through linked lectures and computer-based workshops. It introduces students to essential econometric theory, preparing them to use econometrics in empirical research confidently. Through modules like Quantitative Methods and Analysis for Global Development, students delve into regression analysis, time-series, panel data, and modern tools like machine learning, with practical applications supported by software training in Stata. The compulsory module Welfare and Evaluation in Development explores evidence-based policy-making, welfare theory, and how development initiatives affect well-being, with a focus on poverty and inequality. Applied Methods for Impact Evaluation provides hands-on training in evaluation techniques. The Research Approaches module ensures students are well-prepared for their dissertation or analytical report, emphasizing research design and mixed methods. The dissertation module allows students to apply their learning to a focused research topic of their choice, producing an in-depth analytical piece. Throughout the course, students are trained to interpret econometric findings, conduct multivariate analysis, and apply quantitative techniques to real-world problems. The structure of the program balances theory with practice, fostering strong analytical and methodological capabilities.
