COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Global Public Health at UEA offers a comprehensive and flexible curriculum designed to address real-world health challenges through a sustainability and evidence-based lens. The course begins with a foundational semester focused on core themes such as epidemiology, health systems, sustainability, and global health inequalities. Students are introduced to evidence-based practice while also selecting from optional modules like health economics, climate change, or intercultural communication, allowing them to tailor their learning early on. In the second semester, the emphasis shifts to applied research and problem-solving. Students gain hands-on experience with quantitative research methods crucial for monitoring and evaluating global health interventions and policies. More optional modules become available, offering deeper exploration into areas such as gender and health, globalisation, or leadership in international contexts. Instead of a traditional dissertation, students undertake a substantial Extended Project aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Wellbeing. This involves evaluating a real-world public health policy or program and delivering practical outputs including a critical policy review, a visual poster, and a presentation. This project-based approach ensures students graduate with work-ready skills applicable to policy, research, and global health implementation roles. Core modules like Foundations of Global Health, Evidence-Based Global Health, and Quantitative Research for Monitoring and Evaluation build essential analytical, methodological, and academic skills. These modules are supported through interactive seminars, directed study, and real-time engagement with academic staff and global health professionals. By the end of the program, students will have developed a well-rounded, practice-oriented understanding of global health, equipped with the tools to critically appraise interventions, influence policy, and contribute to sustainable development. This MSc prepares graduates to make a meaningful impact in international public health settings, from governmental organisations to NGOs and global policy institutions.
