COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Finance and Economics is a 12-month program that combines rigorous academic training with practical analytical skills. It begins with taught modules and concludes with a dissertation. The course focuses on advanced economic theory and financial econometrics, alongside a selection of specialist finance modules that vary in technical depth, allowing students to develop a multifaceted understanding of financial topics from different angles. This integrated approach enables students to explore financial concepts through theoretical, descriptive, and empirical lenses, enhancing their comprehension and application of these ideas in real-world scenarios. Core modules include Microeconomics, which delves into complex topics such as demand theory, game theory, and asymmetric information, and Financial Econometric Theory, which equips students with the tools to analyse and forecast financial market behaviours using econometric models and software like STATA. A central component of the program is the dissertation, which serves as a capstone to apply the knowledge and skills gained throughout the course. Although the dissertation is completed during the summer, preparation begins in the spring with a series of training workshops that cover everything from topic selection and data access to quantitative analysis techniques. Students may also collaborate with external organisations, such as businesses or charities, for their dissertation projects, adding practical experience to their academic work. The dissertation process is closely supervised, ensuring students receive personalised guidance as they progress.
